Road to Release

This patch marks the first of the final batch of smaller updates leading to BETA version 2.0, which will be when the game will finally be completed. Still, check out how much was added and improved:

  • Barrels as fully interactable objects, like crates!
    • They appear in any dungeon, just like crates, which will appear slightly less frequently.
    • Can be kicked to roll in that direction, their speed scaling with Strength.
    • Rolling barrels can hit enemies, crates and any other solid objects, dealing damage based on their speed and breaking.
    • Barrels can also be broken with any attacks or spells, costing normal durability and hitstop, unlike crates.
    • Also unlike crates, they don't drop items when destroyed.
    • There are red barrels, that explode like Fireballs when destroyed.
    • Crates and Barrels will now look different based on what dungeon they're in.
  • Big improvements to the inventory system!
    • Potions, bottles, tools, gold bars, trash, keys and lockpicks now stack in a single slot.
    • Shortcuts now work like they do in most other games.
    • You can now freely equip/unequip items in the inventory regardless of carry weight.
    • You can also now pick up 0 weight items (Summoned weapons, Power Stones) even when overencumbered.
    • The sidebar now shows your final ATK and SPD formulas based on your stats and weapon.
    • Carry and equip weights are now shown in red if over the limit. Lamp Oil is also shown in red if almost empty.
    • The game will now try to "fix" the order of combined items in case of failure (ex: putting a whetstone in the slot before the weapon will now work, but what weapon gets repaired by destroying the other will work the same).
  • Improvements to many of the game's bosses!
    • The Slime boss now has much more prominent and readable animations, specially for attacking.
    • The Slime boss will also no longer corrode the player during its death animation.
    • The Idol boss no longer regenerates MP, but a bug that prevented him from spawning minions has been fixed.
    • The Abomination boss now regenerates MP as well as HP.
    • The Dragon boss has had a bug that prevented him from using Fire Breath more than once fixed.
    • The Shadow boss now has less INT, but more VIT. The smoke also covers his body better.
    • The Infant boss now has a much better model for her ice.
    • The boss rooms now have better looking walls.
  • Addidtions and improvements to equipment!
    • A new armor type: Medium!
    • Consequently, Heavy armor is now heavier, and Light armor is now lighter.
    • More, and better, sprites for accessories: Amulets, Scarves, Scabbards, Capes, Buckles, Sashes, Shoes and Sandals!
    • Upgraded equipment and spells get +1, +2, etc., on their name!
    • You can now reenchant already enchanted weapons and shields (replacing the previous effect).
    • Armor durability values have been multiplied by 10, to bring them closer to the weapons'.
    • You now keep the extra HP and MP from equipment when changing floors.
    • Stagger on Parry increase from shields has been halved, overall.
  • Improvements to the environment!
    • More decors: Spiderwebs, ceiling pointers, hanging hooks and buckets!
    • More props: Dead trees, stumps, fountains, stands, shelves, arenas, cave-ins, platforms, elevated grounds and chest-high walls!
    • Better, more consistent textures for several of the game's props, like portals, fog gates, levers, pillars, etc.
    • Adjusted the brightness of the Castle's (and the Village's) textures.
    • Water in general looks less saturated.
    • The hand in the hole can no longer be attacked, and bugs regarding weapon enchantments and shortcuts have been fixed.
    • The vampire's kiss no longer damages, or is reduced by, armor.
    • Merchants no longer sell bags of gold.
    • Spear traps' "attack" speed now scales with their damage.
    • Projectiles now behave properly when colliding with bone gates.
    • Bone gates now also open more slowly, and close much faster, dealing twice as much damage.
    • Better movement and pushing code for the crates and enemies.
    • Floors have slightly less rooms and corridors in general.
  • Game mode changes and additions:
    • A Game Speed setting for runs, which sets the entire game's overall speed from 0.5x to 1.5x!
    • You now unlock the other game modes instead of paying for each run with SOULs.

    • Fixed the icon for the Summon Blade scroll.
    • Summoned weapons are now 1.5x weaker and half as durable.
    • Transfusion has been nerfed.
    • Enemies now cast Symbol of Pain in front of the player, instead of exactly on him.
    • Healing from Mend Wounds, Teleport and Transfusion is now half as fast.
    • Disable's projectiles now disappear after 3 seconds, instead of circling the entire floor.
    • Bind's ring now disappears a little faster, covering a smaller area.
    • Ailments now last twice as long for enemies, including bosses.
    • The Fear ailment no longer makes you randomly use the Shortcut Use, Left and Right commands.
  • Item drop rate adjustments:
    • Equipment now has a 10% greater chance of dropping, from 50% to 60%.
    • Consequently, the chance of dropping potions and moneybags was reduced by 5% each.
    • Weapons now have a 10% greater chance of dropping, from 30% to 40%.
    • Consequently, the chance of dropping shields and accessories was reduced by 5% each.
    • In the end, weapons now have a close to 25% chance of dropping, from 15%.
  • Better screen effects for spells, ailments and powers!
  • Better character creation screen!
  • Better blocking animation!
  • The NPCs in the village will react more to your character's appearance!
  • The old man NPC will stop trying to scam you with the lamp oil amount per bottle.
  • Enemy's lunging attacks are now faster and travel farther, but also deal less damage.
  • Better identity text in the Game Over screen, specially for the default character.
  • Enemies now drop items on kill, instead of at the end of the death animation (when you have the Bountiful Kills power).
  • The Boundless Movement power now increases the head bobbing instead of decreasing it.
  • The Mighty Kicks power now increases the speed of all kicked objects, including crates and projectiles.
  • Slightly adjusted the rings and stones' combining formula so that the Sacrifice ones are the ones that can't be combined with others.
  • Less jankyness in the Ascent mode's ending cutscene.
  • The game state now properly resets when you complete a run.
  • Better anti-lag and speed code to avoid inconsistencies and glitches when FPS drops or when moving too fast.
  • The "Pickup" prompt is now "Pick up key", to be more informative.
  • Fixed the weird sprite for the tutorial chest's item.
  • The game's Master volume is now 50% by default, instead of 100%.

  • More small fixes and adjustments.

Fear not the end of development, however, as many cool things are yet to come, like new game modes, traps and weapons! The next patch will be specially unique, as it'll bring full character customization to the table, so stay tuned!
